Summary: Hatake Riku, 14, genin medical student and recent infiltrator (and successful liberator of over a dozen prisoners) of Sound, wants to take the Chuunin Exams in Mist. So soon after the Fourth Mizukage’s highly mysterious disappearance, the Exams are flooded with teams.

Riku’s team may be the only one from Konoha, but they’re not the only familiar faces in the competition. He’ll have to navigate three test phases, figure out what Sound wants with him now, and find a place in a world he’s increasingly unsure has room for someone like him.

Chapter Summary: The end of Phase 2 of the Chuunin Exams.

Okay, so, let's start with what goes down in chapter 3, because some of that has a lasting effect:

• Uses chakra to body-flicker and heal a broken nose+concussion (minor chakra use)
• Creates a shadow clone (major chakra use: instant 50% loss)
  • Goes to sleep while clone is active (physically/mentally not full sleep) (chakra regenerates during this time)
• Creates a second clone (major chakra use: instant 50% loss)

Chapter 4 picks up here:

• Uses chakra to repeatedly body-flicker (minor chakra use)
• Flash grenade (disorientation, temporary blindness)
  • Hits his head on rock outcropping (minor concussion, bleeding, nausea)
  • Body-flickers (minor chakra use) (exacerbates disorientation+concussion)
  • Creates a shadow clone (major chakra use: instant 50% loss)
  • Attempted drowning (brief asphyxiation)
  • Shadow clone destroyed (mental strain)
  • Body-flickers multiple times (minor chakra use) (exacerbates disorientation+concussion; an ordinary ninja with Riku's reserves would hit chakra exhaustion at this point)
• Black eye
  • Shadow clone destroyed (mental strain)
• Medical scan + chakra transfer jutsu + Mystical Palm Jutsu (major chakra use - even though Riku's borrowing, he still needs to use his own chakra to both start the transfer and process/direct the borrowed chakra)
  • This is the second point an ordinary ninja with Riku's reserves would hit chakra exhaustion. In this short a time period, that ninja would need major medical intervention to stay alive.
• Cure spell x 3 (major magic use - instantly sends Riku into MP Recharge each time)
  • Chakra exhaustion kicks in here for Riku (Riku can't recharge chakra and magic at the same time - the keyblade essentially is using his magic to recharge his chakra, so when his MP is at 0, his chakra freezes.)
  • Upside: the Cure spells heal Riku's own injuries
• Body-flicker x 3 (minor chakra use) while channeling chakra (minor chakra use)
  • By the third flicker, Riku's chakra coils start giving out.
  • If he was a little less determined, he would've done a Roxas and fallen down the cliff. Instead, he gets to make it to the top and shortly thereafter passes out.
